Start with geography
One area, several distinct pieces of water.
A broad species list is not a plan. Choose the backcountry, reef or offshore zone first and verify the regulations for that fishery.

Build the first trip
Narrow the map before choosing tackle.
Start with one side of the island chain and one target class. Avoid burning a weather window switching between bay and ocean.
Choose the water
Backcountry bay, tidal channels, ocean edge and reef. Treat each water type as a separate trip until you understand how they connect.
Match the habitat
Flats, mangroves, channels, bridges, patch reefs and blue water. Pick one or two habitat transitions instead of trying to sample everything.
Protect the return
Confirm the launch, forecast, water level or tide, and a sheltered fallback before leaving the ramp.
